The 1st XI staged a remarkable revival.
The target of 168 seemed a mere formality with the short square boundaries against a bowling attack that has struggled in recent seasons. However the task was given a different perspective as the home team crashed to 8/94 in the 43rd over.
Having previously scored 60 batting at number 10, Tristan Graham strode to the wicket for the first time this season, to join 190-game veteran Andrew Magarey who had commenced his innings only minutes earlier.
On a slow outfield, Coromandel benefitted from lightning quick running between the wickets from the young speedster and the 54 year-old 5000 metre bronze medalist.
After batting with patience early, the runs then flowed from Tristan's bat at a brisk rate as the score approached its destination. He reached his half-century with the total on 162 and moments later tied the scores with a drive through long on for two.
However in a final twist to the saga: Tristan presented an easy catch to the bowler to be dismissed for 54. A nervous Jai Koirala successfully negotiated the final ball of the over, before Magarey hit the winning runs with a trademark pull for two through mid wicket.
With the pressure lifted from his shoulders, Jai then thumped two towering sixes before being stumped for 24, from only 17 deliveries. Andrew finished unbeaten on 26.
Tristan's half-century was his second for Coromandel at the highest level in a Man of the Match performance which included a bowling analysis of 3/17 the previous week. The win was particularly pleasing for relieved captain Matt Laming, who also claimed his 100th wicket during the first day as his team bowled former section one heavy-weight Warradale out for 167.
The 2nd IX, captained by Darren Cheek, successfully defended a total of 201 in only the club's third win ever against Sheidow Park's 1st XI.
With Sheidow Park appearing well placed at 4/174 and a century partnership looming, Coromandel restricted their opponents in the final overs to win by six runs with only three balls remaining.
Making a comeback to the club after an eight year absence, David Lane complimented his score of 80 the previous week, to take three quick wickets and finish the day with 4/40.
Coromandel 201
Sheidow Park 195 (Lane 4/40, Raymond 1/10, B. Moore 1/20, D. Cheek 1/26)
