Andrew Langmaid passes 1000 career runs with an unbeaten century.
Coromandel 226 (Langmaid 101*, Wicks 40, Eglinton 28, P. Magarey 20)First Innings win
Coromandel 226After winning the toss for the third consecutive match, captain Bruce "Henry" Carpenter elected to bat first on a fine day at Hewett Oval.
The batsmen struggled for runs for the better part of the day, the innings dominated by a 99 run stand between veteran Richard McDonough and Shaun Ryder for the 5th wicket.
The innings was off to a brisk start, Tristan Graham and Chris Wallace contributing an opening partnership of 23 runs in under 5 overs. Wallace surprised the home crowd after top-edging two sixes with a "Kanga bat", the second landing in the netball courts.
However both openers were dismissed in quick succession, Wallace out to a "slick" piece of glovework by the Keswick wicket-keeper, standing up to the stumps to the pace bowlers.
A collapse followed, leaving the home side at 4/41, before the steadying partnership between McDonough and Ryder provided the innings with respectability.
McDonough, battling a stomach complaint, batted with a runner (Tristan Graham) from early in the innings, and clearly benefitted from the accelerated running between wickets. He eventually holed out to mid wicket for 70, an innings that included 2 sixes and 5 fours and lasted 72 deliveries. Ryder's 48 in just over 2 hours held the innings together and was a career highest score for Coromandel and his third score in the 40s.
Unlike the last match against Kenilworth, the tail did not wag for Coromandel. Only a further 41 runs were added for the last five wickets, Tim Kaethner brilliantly run out by a direct hit from cover after attempting a run from a misfield.
In the field, a "fired up" Tristan Graham indicated to the opposition that their victory target was not going to be a walkover, as several deliveries beat the bat with considerable pace.

In a match where outright victory seemed a mere formality, the D Grade were facing outright defeat at 5/11 in reply to South Road's first innings score of 92.
Enter (2000/01 JHA winner) Paul Besanko, who shared an explosive partnership of 72 runs from 57 balls with Jarrad Sim.
Besanko's innings of 77 from 45 balls dominated the partnership, even though Sim scored 13 out of the first 17 runs.
Coromandel passed the South Road score in the 17th over, Besanko celebrating by scoring 28 runs (6.4666) from the over, allowing captain Mark Lemmey to declare the innings closed with a first innings lead of 26 and plenty of time to push for an outright win.
The day began with the South Road D Grade (who have struggled to field a full side all season) being bowled out for 92, after being 2/74 at one stage.
Lemmey's latest recruit Daniel Jenkinson (from Adelaide CC) took the bowling honours with 6/41, including 4/4 from his last 3 overs to clean up the tail. P.B. also chipped in with another 3 wickets, completing a lazy 122 Jack Hewett points for the day and strengthing his chances of becoming the first player ever to achieve 1000 points for a season.
On a statistical note, Besanko's innings:
Career highest score and 4th half-century.
First 50 scored from 37 balls - NOT his fastest 50 (see round 2 vs Hectorville (52 off 31 balls)).

Daniel Jenkinson's second innings return of 5/26 gives him match figures of 11/67 - the second best match figures on debut ... ?? For those old enough to remember, Scott Wasley took 11/45 for the E Grade against Campbelltown II in 1981/82. Furthermore, apart from the 10/80 taken by Simon Coad for the D Grade in round 2, it is the first occasion since 1986/87 that a bowler at Coromandel has taken 10 wickets in a match.
On the batting side, Tim Hanna's score of 55 has seen his D Grade average drop to just 63. Though Tim would have a case to argue that this should have been a not out for the second innings target had already been achieved.
