C Grade vs North Haven II
Day One
After losing the toss, the Scott Sims' XI were sent in to bat against a side that only managed to field nine players. They immediately set about exploiting the gaps in the field, "running the opposition ragged" on a ground with some of the largest boundaries ever seen in an Adelaide & Suburban Section 4 match.
Keen to maintain his chances of snaring the Jack Hewett trophy, Mike Maclean accelerated the innings with a timely 57 off 53 balls. With Ben Eames achieving a career highest score off 33 (with no boundaries) at the other end, they recorded an opening stand of 86 in 19 overs. This is an all-time record opening partnership in C Grade matches played at Blackwood Hill Oval. (Coromandel have played 30 C Grade matches at Blackwood Hill, commencing in 1990/91)
Whilst on the subject of miraculous performances, Simsy managed his first
half-century since 8th November 1997, a hard-hitting 54 from just 50 balls,
including 6 fours and 5 threes. It was fortunate for Simsy that he had
witnesses at the ground, no one would have believed his claims that he
scored an all-run four.
Finishing the innings with a brisk 36 (no boundaries, 5 threes) from Andrew "Sarah" Ferguson, the C Grade have ensured that the loss of Peter Zacpal through "injury" will not be a threat to their chances of completing a comfortable win next week.
Coromandel 9/269 dec (Maclean 57, Sims 54, Ferguson 36, Eames 33)
Day Two
Nathan Benson captures first career wicket.
"New look" Peter Zacpal off the short run - cleans up tail
First Innings Win - a mere formality against an opposition who fielded with 9 players and batted with 8.
Coromandel 9/269 dec
North Haven 169

D Grade vs Western Youth Centre IV
Day One
Another Cheek on the rise.
The president's son, Sam Cheek, together with Jarrad Sim, have rescued the D Grade from potential disaster at 6/43 to record a reasonable 116 against Western Youth Centre. Originally named in the side to "make up the numbers", Sam's unbeaten 20 has given him a reason to expect to be selected each week from now on.
Paul Besanko continues to strike fear into the opposition batsman, bowling 5 consecutive maiden overs and picking up a wicket to pass 500 Jack Hewett points.
Coromandel 9/116 (Sim 42, S. Cheek 20*)
Western Youth Centre 1/20 (Besanko 1/0 off 5 overs)
