Batting first, the home side were off to a tremendous start when Mike "Kiwi/Rocky" Maclean belted 3 early boundaries to see the score move to 0/22 after 3 overs. After the run out of temporary opening partner, Ben Eames, former C Grade captain Richard Hunter joined Kiwi at the crease and watched from the other end as Maclean brought up his second highest career score, 67 runs in 69 minutes.
Simon Johnson, who has been swinging the bat lustily all season, finally managed to connect with some sort of consistency. He plundered 79 runs in a 102 partnership off 18 overs with Shane Schembri (20) for the 5th wicket. This is Simon's third half century for the club, all have been scored in the last year and all at Blackwood Hill Oval.

First Innings Win
Coromandel 226Graham Carpenter has made his long-awaited return to the playing arena, and made up for lost time taking 4 wickets. With Simon "junior" Zacpal steaming in from the other end, the D Grade bowlers made light work of the St George batting line-up, bowling them out for just 127 on a small ground. Simon's 3/19 included 3/0 from 7 balls.
After collapsing to 5/46, the batting has made a slight recovery to be 8/98 at the close of play. Jarrad Sim (19*) will need to show the temperament, displayed against Hectorville last season, to get Coromandel over the line.
Early N.A.C.A. nomination for Neil Craig: given out handling the ball, becoming only the second player at Coromandel to be dismissed this way since 1957. More details later when I hear the full story.
St George 127 (G. Carpenter 4/63, S. Zacpal 3/19)After failing by only 6 runs to take the first innings points, Lemmey's XI regrouped to bowl St George out cheaply and record the first outright victory in D Grade matches since round 4, 1996/97.
Requiring 82 to win off of 27 overs, the chase was off to the start it needed after Tristan Graham scored a career highest score of 44, in an opening partnership of 56 in 11 overs with Neil Craig. Paul Besanko continued the batting form displayed last match against Hectorville, scoring 16 off of 4 deliveries, and with Mark Lemmey putting the finishing touches to the win with 16 off 7 balls, they contributed to ensure the team were back to the Blackwood RSL well before 6pm.
Also, it appears Neil has decided to use his bat, rather than his glove, to defend the bowling this week.
