The statistician would like to apologise for the late scores this week, he was shouted a few more beers than usual last night.
At Western Youth CentreThe A Grade received a hammering from new club Western Youth.
Robert Morley finished with best figures of 4/22 and at one stage was on a hat-trick. Unfortunately, it seems he was introduced into the bowling attack too late.
First Innings Loss
Coromandel 191 (M. Langmaid 60*, M. Wicks 54, D. Trus 23)The B Grade were the only side to experience victory this round. The win was set up by the veteran Richard McDonough who overcame an early "whack" on the wrist to play an aggressive innings of 72. The innings included 4 sixes and supported the notion that it is easier to score runs in the air on Hewett oval. In the process he passed 3000 career runs and was well supported by the captain Andrew Magarey who continued a consistent season with a score of 55.
Mitchell Park 180 (T. Graham 6/65, G. Wannan 2/50)First Innings Loss
Coromandel 119 (W. Gebert 24, R. Hunter 26)First Innings Loss
Captain Mark Lemmey lost (another) toss and his team were asked to bat first.
The first innings of South Park was completed with the unusual occurrence of two bowlers being on a hat-trick. The captain wanted to leave them on hat-tricks at the "end of the century" (one year early, but anyway..)
The afore mentioned players were rewarded by being asked to opening the batting in the second innings. After a competent stand of 18 runs, Pike was the first to go after being given out to a dubious caught behind decision. Coromandel were once again trouble again with the bat, collapsing to lose 7/54. At the fall of the 7th wicket, Coromandel had a lead only 62 runs with 3 wickets remaining and nearly 20 overs to be bowled - against a team who showed in the first innings that they could easily score at over 10 runs per over.
Enter debutant Nick Raymond, who showed promise in compiling an unbeaten 19 runs and contributing to an unbroken partnership of 38 with John Magarey to steer the home side to safety.
A declaration was made with 8 overs remaining, setting South Park a target of 101 from 5 overs. The declaration was made with the sole purpose of providing opportunities for the two bowlers to complete their hat-tricks.
N.A.C.A. mention for Mark Lemmey, who succumbed to peer pressure from the boundary to "bare all" from first slip for the final ball of the match.
Coromandel 85 (P. Griffin 20)
