A Grade vs Glenelg ANA
Batting first, Coromandel got off to a bad start to be 8/120 at one stage. However a fighting half century from Damien Trus with good support from bowling spearhead David Magarey, the tail wagged to provide Coromandel with a competitive score.
On the second Saturday, Nathan Roxby continued his good form taking 2 important wickets while David Magarey and Andrew Langmaid captured their first wickets for the season with 2 each.
After being 2/90 at one stage, Glenelg ANA collapsed to be all out for 148 giving the A Grade 2 wins out their first 2 matches.
Special mention must be made of the sensational catching displayed by Damien ("Good Shit") Trus, who took 4 catches including two absolute blinders. For a full description, talk to the man himself - he has more poetic tendencies than I do.
Coromandel 183 (D. Trus 51, M. Eglinton 39, D. Magarey 20)A collapse of catastrophic proportions at one stage had Cormomandel 4/8. Shaun Ryder in his debut match joined the 291 game veteren Bruce Carpenter for a fifth wicket partnership of 56.
Coro bowled out for just 103.
On the second Saturday, a magnificent all-round bowling and fielding performance saw the bowlers restrict Kenilworth to just 51.
Return to form by the "Mystery bowler" Tim Kaethner with 6 wickets.
This is Tim's third six wicket haul and has taken his total career wickets to 53 !
With the miserly figures of 3/6 from 6.4 overs, John Beverley kept the pressure on at the other end and the Kenilworth batsmen never looked comfortable.
All that can be said about this match is that the batting improved in the second innings.
Mike Matthews continued his good form with his second score of 40+ this season while the ever reliable Greg Kearsley followed his unbeaten top score in the first innings with another score of over 30.
The Kiwi finally managed his first runs for the season. After having being dismissed first ball and second ball respectively in his previous two innings, he overcame the nerves of being on a pair to record his fourth highest career score.
Set a challenging target of 108 in 17 overs to win outright, the opposition did not oblige in the run chase and the overall result was a first innings loss.
Coromandel 49 (G. Kearsley 12*)
