Round 1. 9th - 16th October
Scores
After a disappointing start to round 1 last week due to rain,
clear blues skies allowed for a full day's play and some good
competitive cricket for the second week of round 1.

A Grade vs Panorama
Saturday's "one day match" produced the closest
first innings result since the win over Coromandel Ramblers by
one run in 1996/97.
Nathan Roxby in his debut match for the club turned in a fine
performance with 4 wickets while the 87 game veteran Mark
Eglinton in his first match as captain cleaned up the tail with
three wickets.
Chasing 134 to win, the innings got the start it needed with a
quickfire 23 from Andrew Langmaid and a solid 35 from the
President Mark Wicks who succeeded in striking only the second
six in his illustrious 116 match career. A third wicket
partnership of 47 between Wicks and Eglinton saw Coromandel move
to 2/81 before a collapse of 7/30 left the home side requiring 23
runs from 4 overs with only one wicket in hand. It was at this
point that the latest generation of the Magarey Dynasty strode to
the crease and together with Andrew Alderson produced a last
wicket partnership to guide the team to an exciting one wicket
victory.
On a statistical note, Nathan's 4/39 are the best
bowling figures by a player on debut for Coromandel in an A grade
match since 1971.

C Grade vs Warradale
Captain Mike Matthews won the toss and
elected to field and the decision appeared to be a very good one
as Warradale struggled to 3/23 after 20 overs at drinks. This was
mainly due to some fast, accurate bowling from Tristan Graham
(who is trying to impress the A Grade selectors) and Greg
Kearsley, whose medium pacers were testing out the reflexes of
keeper Matthews standing up at the stumps.
After drinks, the bowling continued to be tight as Warradale
struggled to reach 50 in the 31st over but it was at this point
that the middle order batsmen picked up the pace and reached the
century off the second last ball of the innings.
Chasing 103 to win from 40 overs, only
"Blue" Matthews seemed determined enough to stay at the
crease long enough to score the required runs. From a position of
strength at 2/53, the middle order and tail collapsed and the
side fell 8 runs short of a win with 23 balls still remaining.
Warradale 6/102 (T. Graham 2/35)

D Grade vs Western Youth
The D Grade always faced an uphill battle after being dismissed
for only 81 in their first innings.
The veteran Ken Rowe carried his good bowling form from last
season to pick up three wickets.
Encouraging debut performance by star of the future David
Whiteway in scoring 14* to follow up his one wicket and
sensational catch at short cover.
Of course, I should say something about the second career wicket of Matthew Bubner, ... but I won't.
